Part 1

Mission And Goals

The Radford University Archives serves as the official and final repository for the historical records of Radford University from its establishment in 1910 to the present time. The institution was previously known as the State Normal and Industrial School for Women at Radford (1910-1924); Radford State Teachers College (1924-1944); Radford College, the Women’s Division of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (1944-1964); and Radford College (1964-1979). The institution was granted university status in 1979. The Radford University Archive’s goals are to:

Promote knowledge and understanding of the history, programs and goals of Radford University;

Collect, assess, organize, and preserve records of enduring value created by administrators, faculty, staff, students, and alumni;

Collect and preserve the official papers of university presidents and other individuals who have made important contributions to the university;

Catalog, index, and make files available to administrators, faculty, staff, students and researchers.
