Vision Statement
This vision statement describes the environment of the future
McConnell Library. Written in 2006, it embodies some of the
goals, characteristics and ethics that enable this library to serve
Radford University in the 21st century. These visionary ideals
are complements to our mission statement, which describes our universal
purpose and commitment to serving the Radford University community.
Overview
McConnell Library has an organic and collaborative culture that
is student and faculty centered and open to new ideas. Regardless
of their physical location, users experience a wide array of
services to meet their information needs.
Services
We foster information literacy and promote library resources across
the curriculum. We promote awareness and increase visibility
of the library’s staff, services and resources to students
and faculty. The library collaborates with faculty to provide
services and collections that enrich our academic programs. McConnell
Library is the destination for students and faculty to pursue
academic and extracurricular interests.
Staffing
People are essential assets of the library. Library staff
select, organize, and provide access to resources, while incorporating
innovative methods of delivery. Ongoing professional development
and flexible personnel allocations allow us to better serve our
users.
Technology
State of the art technologies are integrated with all our services. We
promote information technology literacy, especially in collaboration
with campus technology departments. The library has a virtual
presence that complements and enhances traditional library services.
Internal and External Relations
We honor the concepts of the American Library Association Code
of Ethics and the Library Bill of Rights to ensure the free flow
of information and ideas. Key decision makers and stakeholders
are kept informed about the library’s successes and challenges
and the political realities that influence the services and resources
we provide. We communicate effectively to share this vision
both internally and externally.
